Several (now convincingly UnReluctant) readers who celebrated the 1st Annual UnReluctant Day contacted me, wondering “What of the document? What have you done with the document?”
The document, of course, is The Declaration of UnReluctance.” I, as they used to speak back in someone’s day, enclose it herewith: (It’s pretty cool, and refreshingly powerful.)
The Declaration of UnReluctance
In this, my Year of Bold Intent, and the Pursuit of my Life Well-Lived™.
When in the course of human striving, it becomes necessary to cast off the quiet chains of hesitation, a person must declare the truths they are now willing to live by – openly, wholly, and without apology.
Let it be known, therefore, that I do solemnly and with full awareness make this declaration:
I will not let reluctance nor hesitation become my habit.
I will not let old stories speak louder than new intentions.
I will not wait for perfect timing, perfect wording, or perfect acceptance.
I am done calling fear “caution,”
and avoidance “patience,”
and reluctance “just who I am.”
I will move –
before I’m “totally” ready,
before it’s polished,
before the applause.
I will risk being misunderstood in the pursuit of being whole, and happy.
I will not outsource my permission.
I will not wait to be picked, validated, or rescued.
Now, I name the things I’ve withheld from.
And today, I step toward them.
Not all at once.
But no longer not at all.
Let this stand not as a whisper, but a firm declaration.
Let reluctance yield to conviction.
And let movement, however imperfect, and progress, however hard-gained, begin.
Listen to this sample from Reluctance: The Subtle Saboteur and discover how hesitation, avoidance, and “maybe later” quietly shape our choices—and what happens when we choose differently.
