Sedona has a mysterious appeal for many people, and I visit as often as is reasonably practical. On my last trip, after spending a few days in Sedona, I headed toward Scottsdale. The route took me through Cottonwood.
It was hot that day, and the phrase “Hot in Cottonwood” immediately got my songwriting instincts going. Many of the lyrics describe the town itself. It stretches along the valley, looking both weary and welcoming at the same time.
The song came together quite naturally as I finished the drive and enjoyed the day there.
